Week 3 – April 10, 2026

Distance: 13 miles
Weather at run time: 50s, Sunrise 6:24am
I said in my last post that I would not post Week 2. For Week 2 I did do a 6 mile run. I’m trying to make 6 miles my new “base” run and so I’m not really considering it a long run. I’m getting closer to the half marathon, and wanted to do a last long run before the actual race. If you are training for your first half marathon I would not suggest doing 13 miles in training. However, I’ve done half’s in the past, and really wanted to get my legs used to it so that I could concentrate on my time. I haven’t run more then 10 miles in a couple years so I was interested to see how this would go. At first, I was going to wear my backpack with 2 water bottles. However, it’s just not that comfortable lol. I took 2 water bottles that used to go in a running belt. I put one in my zipped up pocket and held the other at the start. I didn’t have any gels so didn’t bring anything to eat. It was nice enough outside to just wear shorts in a tee shirt. Overall, I was really happy with the run. My time was decent, I would hope to do slightly better for the actual race but it was fine. The weather made a big difference with the mental side – it just put me in a good mood. I never touched the second water bottle until I finished the run, but my primary bottle I drank from at miles 4, 8, and 12. For recovery, my legs felt ok about an hour after the run, but I was drained. I was able to exercise as normal the next day though. Probably will do 6 mile runs from this point until the half, but will consider this run a success.
Week 1 – March 28, 2026

Distance: 10 miles
Weather at run time: 30s, Sunrise 6:59am
Started the run around 3pm as planned. Did not bring gels or water on today’s run. I’m about one month out from the the Flower City Half Marathon. The run actually went better than expected. I haven’t done this distance in awhile, but I was happy with my pace. The canal wasn’t very crowded due to the cold weather. I’ll probably scale back this week and aim to do another long run next week.
