Currently Readying: Rhythm of War

Initial thoughts and why I’m reading it: Anytime I take a break from reading, I always find it easier to get back into the habit with a book I consider “fun.” This book is a 1200 page tome but it is an enjoyable read so far. As the cover shows, this is the fourth installment in THE STORMLIGHT ARCHIVE books, and since I read the first three, I have always planned to finish the series. While I had heard of Brandon Sanderson, I had never read any of his writing until he was chosen to finish the Wheel of Time … Continue reading Currently Readying: Rhythm of War

Currently Reading: LEONARDO DA VINCI

Initial thoughts and why I’m reading it: At a dinner over the holiday, my family somehow got on the subject of the Mona Lisa. I was curious how the Mona Lisa had come to end up in France, not Italy. Later that night, I asked the all-knowing Google for answers. I discovered that the Mona Lisa had been with Leonardo when he died in France, and was later purchased by King Francis I of France from one of Leonardo’s assistants. During this quick googling session, I realized how little I knew about Leonardo Da Vinci. I knew he was a … Continue reading Currently Reading: LEONARDO DA VINCI

A Look Back: Great Expectations

I debated how to handle this post. I read this book fairly recently, but since I never had a chance to do a Currently Reading post, I decided against doing an In Conclusion post. The reason I read this book was two fold. First, I had just finished reading the second Horatio Hornblower, and really wanted to read the next one, but I was in Croatia, and the amount of books in English were limited. After going into several bookstores, and not finding any of the Horatio novels, I gave up hope. For a long time, my father has given … Continue reading A Look Back: Great Expectations

Currently Reading: The Hornblower Novels of C.S. Forester

Initial thoughts and why I’m reading it: I kind of already mentioned one of the reasons why I’m reading this book in my Churchill: A Look Back post. Churchill was reading a Hornblower novel when he crossed the Atlantic for his first meeting with Eisenhower. However, I have another connection to these books. When I was younger, in elementary or middle school, a friend of mine told me about this great television series called Horatio Hornblower and lent me the DVDs. It was an AMC series that I ended up watching with my father. Mr. Midshipman Hornblower, that I’m reading … Continue reading Currently Reading: The Hornblower Novels of C.S. Forester
