Tulsa King
Summary in three words: Better than expected
Reaction: I wasn’t expecting much from this show. I watched it on a whim, because I was bored. I’m also not a huge Stallone fan so, if anything, I was a bit prejudice against it. After watching the first episode it took me a couple weeks before giving the show another chance. The first episode wasn’t bad, it just didn’t hook me. I thought the premise seemed too unbelievable. However, after giving the show more of a chance, I really enjoyed it. Tulsa King is probably one of my favorite shows that I watched this year. The overall story remains bizarre, in my opinion, but it’s interesting and entertaining. Although it deals with mafia themes I do not think you need to necessarily be into those types of shows/movies to enjoy Tulsa King.

Favorite Character: Armand Truisi
Found Interesting: I liked the Charles ‘Chickie’ Invernizzi character and his interaction with Dwight.
The Lincoln Lawyer
Summary in three words: Damn the drones
Reaction: I’ve never read the book this is based on or seen the Matthew McConaughey movie, I just saw this on Netflix and decided to give it a try. I was hooked immediately with this show. It starts with a mystery and I found myself immediately compelled to discover the truth of what had happened. For me, this was a quick binge. I really enjoy law shows and mysteries so, for me, this was a great show. I’m tempted to read the book now to see how different it is. I’m glad it sounds like this show will have a second season; I’m excited to see more cases unfold.

Favorite Character: Cisco
Found Interesting: The case was interesting, but the overall mystery that slowly unfolds is what drew me into the show.
1923
Summary in three words: Better than 1883
Reaction: I have not seen Yellowstone yet. However, I did see all of 1883, and while I enjoyed it, I found it to be slow. 1883 was not a show I could binge, and instead, I took long pauses before continuing the show. 1923 I was more quickly hooked, which is odd, because I wouldn’t say the story moves quickly. The entire season almost feels like a prequel, not to Yellowstone (again haven’t seen it), but to the already announced second season. This first season really seemed to be about introducing characters, showing you their motives and who they are, so that we are hopefully all very invested when the second season lands. That might sound like a criticism of 1923, but I still found it more exciting than 1883 (that’s a criticism).

Favorite Character: Spencer
Found Interesting: The Africa scenes in the 1920s. I haven’t seen it depicted often in media before.
Has anyone else seen these or something else interesting lately? Let me know what you think!
