Initial thoughts and why I’m reading it: Anytime I take a break from reading, I always find it easier to get back into the habit with a book I consider “fun.” This book is a 1200 page tome but it is an enjoyable read so far. As the cover shows, this is the fourth installment in THE STORMLIGHT ARCHIVE books, and since I read the first three, I have always planned to finish the series. While I had heard of Brandon Sanderson, I had never read any of his writing until he was chosen to finish the Wheel of Time series. Since I was a big fan of that series, I was nervous about someone taking it over after Robert Jordan died, but overall, I was impressed with the job he did of bringing everything to a satisfactory close. The STORMLIGHT ARCHIVE is the first original series that I’ve read by Sanderson. In my opinion, there is a lot of crap in the fantasy genre. At least to me, it feels like a genre full of extremes; there are some great books and there are some books that you can’t get through because they are mind numbingly horrible. I find Sanderson’s book to be a welcome change to that. Are they the best thing I’ve ever read? No. Are they entertaining reads? Yes. Do I have to wait 20 years for the next one? Also, no (which is awesome).

I’m excited to finish this book. It can be slow at times but I’m one of those people that likes these large-in-scope fantasies so I don’t really mind. I’ll let you know my thoughts when I finish.
