Currently Reading: Churchill: Walking with Destiny

Initial thoughts and why I’m reading it: Originally, I was searching for a biography of Admiral Nelson, but was not able to find one that interested me. If anyone has a recommendation for a good Nelson biography, please let me know. I decided on a Churchill biography instead because, while I had some background on him, specifically pertaining to his WWII exploits, I still didn’t know much about him. I felt like I had a knowledge gap as to his overall life and role in British politics. It was not until after I ordered this book that I realized that it was written by Andrew Roberts, who also wrote Napoleon. This might be surprising because it’s written on the cover of the book, but, as I’ve previously mentioned, I’m not always the brightest. Instead, my purchase was not based on the fact that I enjoyed Napoleon, but rather the glowing reviews this book received on Amazon. When I did realize this was written by Roberts, I decided to do my first A Look Back post on Napoleon. So far, I am about a hundred pages in. I am loving the book. Roberts really gives great details, while telling a compelling story of the man’s life. I also quickly found out that, not only my knowledge of Churchill was lacking, but also, of British politics in general. I am really enjoying the book at this point, and would recommend it to anyone that enjoys biographies. I will write a larger reaction to this book after I have finished; it’s over 900 pages so it is going to take me a minute…
