Yesterday was my first day back playing golf this year. The course was in rough shape. All the dead grass made me think this must be what no man’s land of WWI looked like. Couldn’t ask for better weather though, it was in the low 70s and very little to no wind. Since I was a single, two different groups of four offered to let me play through which I found surprisingly nice. Then on the ninth hole, a ball landed about two feet from where I was standing. There was no shout of four or any sign that I might get pegged with a ball. My would be assassin appeared to be one of the people that had allowed me to play through earlier, so all my previous thoughts on the kindness of my fellow man quickly dissolved, and I’m back to being highly suspicious of strangers (only kidding).
On my way home, my Uber driver was complaining about the traffic which I found odd because traffic tends to be light earlier on a Saturday morning. Totally forgot it’s cherry blossom season. There were thousands of people down by the Potomac and national monuments. My driver asked me what the English word is for what the people were playing under the Washington Monument. He was referring to all of the kites flying in the air. I learned the Spanish word for kite is papalote, which I like better. Doing further research, I found out there are actually 15 Spanish words for kite (see below). Overall it was another beautiful Saturday morning. Really glad to get out golfing, the spring league starts April 8th and I was happy to get some practice in beforehand.
