Recently Watched: Triple Frontier

Recently I watched Netflix’s new movie, Triple Frontier. Honestly, my first thought when seeing Ben Affleck in a Netflix original was, damn, what happened to your career? This is unfair though. Oscar Isaac, who’s currently starring in major blockbusters like the new Star Wars trilogy (although they’re terrible) is also in the film. I think my initial reaction was more just that I still see Netflix as the modern-day prime time cable and less a Hollywood studio.

Triple Frontier is not what I expected. Not only could it have been in theaters, but it is also just not the type of movie I anticipated watching. Maybe it was the trailer, but I was expecting a nonstop action flick. Instead, the pacing of the film is pretty slow and the beginning and later half can drag at times. It reminded me of Three Kings, in the way it follows a band of soldiers (in this case former soldiers) as they attempt to steal a life-changing amount of money from a dictator (in this case drug lord). This also happens to be a similar premise to the 2017 movie, American Renegades, where the soldiers go rogue in order to recover lost Nazi gold.

Overall, I would say if you have some time to kill this is definitely worth a watch. While it doesn’t do anything new, it is an entertaining film that’s worth the price of admission (your monthly Netflix subscription).

Side Note:  On the poster above, I understand the names are in alphabetical order by last name, but don’t know why they didn’t choose a photo where the names would correspond with the actors. Rookie mistake Netflix.
